Serama Care

Caring For Your Serama

Feeding & Care of Chicks (2-5 months)- Chick starter up to 16 weeks. Keep them warm at 94 degrees, under a heat lamp. Decrease the the heat by 5 degrees by raising the bulb each week, until you reach room temperature. You will no longer need the heat lamp when reach room temperature or they are fully feathered with adult feathers (no baby fluff). At that point, they will be able to retain their own heat and keep warm.

Feeding & Care of Adult Seramas (6+ months)- Layer crumble, oyster shell (for strong egg shells & bones), greens & grit. For treats- dried mealworms, healthy table scraps, etc. We add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to one gallon of drinking water. It is for their health everyday.

Seramas love to free range in the yard. Just be careful of neighborhood cats, hawks and pesticides!
Our chickens love raw broccoli, oatmeal, flax seed, kale, swiss chard, stale bread, pumpkins, leftover chicken & bugs!

Your new chicken may undergo a bit of stress during transition to your home. Keep them warm, well feed, continuos water and they should be fine. If they look a little under the weather give them some probiotics, Chick Saver, molasses (1 tablespoon per gallon of water) or brewers yeast.
